Frequently Asked Questions

Teak naturally weathers to a handsome silver-grey when left outdoors. This greying process typically occurs over 6–12 months, depending on sun and rain exposure. It doesn’t affect the wood’s durability, only its appearance.

Yes, tiny surface cracks, especially on end grain or heavier parts like legs and arms, are natural as teak adjusts to humidity. They’re purely cosmetic and don’timpact the strength or life of the furniture.

Use a teak sealer, ideally within the first month. Solvent-based sealers with UV, moisture, and mould protection are recommended. Reapply every 9–12 months. Always test products on a hidden spot first.

We suggest that oil can be used but cautions that sealers offer better protection without attracting mildew. Choose sealers over oil for colour preservation and mould resistance.

Recommended steps:

  1. Remove debris and cushions.
  2. Rinse gently (no power washing).
  3. Use mild soapy water or a dedicated teak cleaner.
  4. Scrub with a soft brush following the grain.
  5. Rinse and allow to air-dry.

Use degreaser for spots like bird droppings or food, then rinse thoroughly.

Use the Teak Garden Furniture Restoration Kit, which includes:

  • Luxus Teak Cleaner & Renovator (two-part system)—removes stains (food, mold, rust, sunscreen, bird droppings, etc.) without heavy scrubbing.
  • Luxus Teak Sealer—penetrates wood to enhance colour, forms links against staining, and protects from UV, mould/mildew, and moisture.

Follow product instructions carefully.

After about three months (once wood is settled):

  • Apply a drop of exterior-grade PVA glue into the crack.
  • Let it go tacky (~15 seconds).
  • Lightly sand with 120–180 grit along the grain.
  • Wipe away dust. The patch usually blends in over time.

Painting is not recommended. It will obscure teak’s natural beauty, may lead to flaking, and could reduce moisture resistance. RoyalFinesse uses Grade A teak with a natural finish, which is intended to weather naturally or be treated with sealer, avoid paint.

Yes, cushioning with breathable, UV-resistant covers helps protect teak from weather, pollutants, tree sap, and bird droppings. RoyalFinesse offers covers in multiple sizes (e.g., 120,150,180cm sets). They include features like zero-fade fabric, full weather resistance, drawstring hems, and optional water-shedding poles for airflow.

Light sanding helps smooth surfaces or remove old finish before applying sealer. Always sand with the grain, using appropriate grit, and wear eye protection. Over-sanding lowers the wood’s protective layer, so only sand when necessary.
